House Democratic Leader Mark Pafford Wednesday filled out his leadership team for the 2015 legislative session.
When floor debates and lawmaking begins, Pafford and Leader Pro Tempore Mia Jones, D-Jacksonville, will turn to a veteran lawmaker to develop policy, an experienced accountant to count votes and a former lawman to keep everyone in line.
Democrats have little leverage in their dealings with the Republican majority, outnumbered 118 – 38 with two seats undecided.
The House Democrats Policy Chair is freshman Rep. Evan Jenne, D-Dania Beach. Jenne previously served three terms in the House. Incidently, Pafford had served as policy chair before being voted caucus chair.
Thirty-year accountant Rep. David Richardson, D-Miami will keep track of votes as the Democrat’s Floor Leader. Richardson is a former Pentagon auditor.
Second-term Alachua Rep. Clovis Watson will serve as Democratic Whip. Watson is a former Deputy Chief of Police for Alachua
“All of us in the Democratic Caucus will be more effective with these members in these important posts,” said Pafford. “The different routes they’ve taken to the Legislature and the experiences they have make them able leaders.”
The 60-day regular session begins March 3, 2015. Committee meetings will begin the week of January 5.
