Only sometimes to be confused with the famed superhero Justice League, the Florida Justice Association is prepping for the upcoming legislative session and the midterm elections with the announcement of a new political team.
Beginning Wednesday, Jonathan Ducote assumed the role of political director and Kevin Sweeny as political operations director.
Ducote, a veteran political operative, managed and fundraised for several campaigns on the East Coast. He served as campaign manager for Loranne Ausley’s 2010 bid for CFO, as financial director for Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown’s campaign, and most recently as campaign manager for Barbara Buono’s gubernatorial race in New Jersey.
In his new role with the FJA, Ducote will handle strategy and direction for its political action committee.
Sweeny also knows the lay of the land in Florida politics, having managed campaigns and legislative affairs for a variety of interests. Sweeny was a political consultant with Public Concepts in West Palm beach, chief of staff to Rep. Stan Mayfield and Sen. Charlie Dean, and campaign manager to Dean and Sen. J.D. Alexander. With the FJA, Sweeny will oversee external messaging and carry out PAC activities.
“We are thrilled to have Jonathan and Kevin in their new roles with our political team,” said Debra Henley, Executive Director of Florida Justice Association. “Their combined experience in fundraising and campaign management paired with their strong political instincts make them a formidable team.”
The trial lawyers’ bipartisan staff take on some of the most weighty issues each session, and some of the biggest races each election year.
With Ducote and Sweeny on board with the FJA, Superman, Batman and team can keep to their usual villains.
