Without fanfare, Florida has now gone seven months without a lieutenant governor, and there does not seem to be one on the horizon.
Gov. Rick Scott has not discussed any timetable for replacing former Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll, who resigned March 12. Carroll was linked to Internet cafes across the state operated by Allied Veterans of the World, which earlier that month were raided by law enforcement. Previously, Carroll performed consulting work for the group.
Scott said in July that Chief of Staff Adam Hollingsworth would prepare to launch a search, sparking a number of rumors of who might be the next lieutenant governor.
However, since then Scott rarely addressed the issue.
According to the Florida Constitution, without a lieutenant governor Attorney General Pam Bondi would take over if Scott were unable to fulfill his duties.
