With across the board salary increases definitely not under the Christmas tree, Senate employees will at least get more paid time home with their family over the holidays, under a directive by Senate President Mike Haridopolos that shuts down the chamber for the week following Christmas. “The economic climate has yet to improve to the point of awarding across the board pay increases for all government employees,” Haridopolos wrote last month. “Hopefully, that day will come soon.” Since Christmas lands on Sunday, employees are already getting Dec. 26th off. In his Nov. 4 memo, Haridopolos told them to take the rest of the week as well. “It is my hope that by adding the remainder of that week, your celebration will be one that your family and friends will remember for years to come,” he said.
