The newly established Veterans Hall of Fame is seeking nominations for the first class of honorees and is accepting nominations through May 31.ย
The Hall was created by the State of Florida to recognize and honor military veterans who, through their works and lives during or after service made a significant contribution to the State in terms of civic, business, public service, or other pursuits. It is not a traditional military hall of fame, as it focuses on post-military contributions to Florida.
A seven-person council chooses the inductees who will be submitted to the Governor and Cabinet, and gives preference to veterans who were either born in Florida or adopted Florida as their home state.
According to the Tallahassee Democrat, Florida joins Arizona, Connecticut, New York and Ohio as the only states to have a Hall of Fame honoring veterans.
Nominations must be submitted using forms provided at www.floridaveteranshalloffame.org.
