Florida’s jobless rate remains unchanged at 8.8% in August

Florida’s August jobless rate of 8.8 percent remained unchanged from July but was down from 10.5 percent in August 2011, the Department of Economic Opportunity reported Friday. Nationally, the jobless rate fell in August to 8.1 percent from 8.3 in July. It was down 1.2 percentage points from the 9.3 percent rate posted in August 2011.Florida’s non agricultural workfoce topped 7.3 million in August, an increase of 77,800 jobs from a year ago, or 1.1 percent, the agency reported.
