Say a prayer for the Farmer family…

State Surgeon General Frank Farmer resigned unexpectedly Monday to deal with his wife’s diagnosis with breast cancer, reports the News Service of Florida. Farmer sent a resignation letter to Gov. Rick Scott Monday morning saying his resignation woujld be effective at the end of the legislative session, which ends Friday. In an email to employees at the Department of Health, Farmer said the unwelcome “life changing experience” required him to step down. “Peggy has been diagnosed with breast cancer and has undergone surgery and radiation.  It was diagnosed early and we and the treating physicians are optimistic for a complete recovery and cure,” Farmer wrote. “My position and the path I must choose have now changed.  I want to support my wife and family through this time and accordingly, I am stepping down as State Surgeon General at the end of legislative session to return to my home town of Ormond Beach and be with Peggy.”
