According to new findings by the Leadership Florida/Nielsen Company 2010 Sunshine State Survey, there is a deeper level of confidence among Floridians in the state’s elections processes and technology. After the embarrassment and national debacle of Florida’s failed 2000 presidential election counts and recounts, the state’s aggressive moves to restore credibility to local and state elections has been reflected in much higher approval ratings for the changes.
When asked about areas in which the state is doing a good job, respondents say the state election system has rebounded since the 2000 election and gave the state government its highest marks for making it convenient to vote (78%), providing dependable election equipment (54%), and informing citizens about election laws and procedures (50%).
