On Thursday, Republican state Rep. Matt Caldwell received the backing of the Florida Medical Association in his re-election bid for House District 79. FMA represents more than 20,000 practicing physicians in Florida.
Caldwell faces businessman Matt Miller in the August 26 GOP primary. HD 79 covers northeast Lee County.
“Representative Matt Caldwell has served his constituents in Lee County honorably for the past four years, and he has the backing of the Florida Medical Association in his campaign to reclaim his seat in the Florida House,” said FMA PAC President Dr. Ralph Nobo. “The Florida Medical Association looks forward to working with him as we seek measures to shape Florida’s health care for a better tomorrow.”
In a statement released Thursday, Caldwell responded that he is “honored” to receive the endorsement of FMA PAC, which supports candidates statewide who actively promote the medical community. FMA PAC has raised more than $1 million in 2013 with voluntary donations from its members.
“I applaud their efforts in providing access of quality health care to all Floridians and look forward to working together on creating solutions to the health care challenges our state faces,” said Caldwell.
