Florida Medical Association (FMA) President Dr. Alan Pillersdorf is endorsing state Rep. Ron “Doc” Renuart in his bid for state Senate District 6.
In an announcement today, Dr. Pillersdorf will also be host of a major fundraiser in January to support the Ponte Vedra Beach Republican, who currently represents House District 17, which covers St. Augustine through the southern border of Duval County. The reception will focus on the Palm Beach medical and physician communities.
Renuart, a physician and former chief of medicine at the Baptist Medical Center Beaches, was first elected to the House in 2008.
“Doc is a serious candidate with a passion for and firm understanding of issues that matter most to health-care professionals and their patients,” Pillersdorf said. “His experience, voting record and lifelong commitment to the service of others make him the right choice for Senate District 6.”
Renuart is pleased to receive Pillersdorf’s support, whom he calls “well respected and involved.”
“The outpouring of support I have received from Florida doctors in this race has been encouraging,” Renuart added. “I greatly appreciate their votes of confidence.”
On Jan. 27, Renuart faces state Rep. Travis Hutson of District 24 and Dennis McDonald in the GOP primary for the seat covering St. Johns, Flagler, Putnam and part of Volusia counties. The winner faces Democrat David Cox in the April 7 general election.
