Former Rep. Michael Scionti to run for Circuit Court judge

Michael Scionti filed to run for Hillsborough Circuit Court Judge, Group 19 in the 2014 election, according to La Gaceta’s Patrick Manteiga. The seat is currently held by Chief Judge Manuel Menendez, Jr., who is retiring.

Scionti has only been home for a few weeks after returning from Afghanistan as a senior U.S. diplomat. Prior to this , he was appointed by President Barack Obama to serve in the Pentagon as Deputy Assistant Secretarty of Defense for Homeland Defense and Intergovernmental Affairs. He also served two combat tours of duty, one in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. 

Political observers know Scionti as a former State Representative, Assistant Attorney General, Assistant State Attorney and Assistant Statewide Prosecutor.
