Longtime Republican stalwart Tom Slade is in critical condition today in an Orange Park hospital.

Slade suffered heart failure last week and was unable to be revived. He is now receiving care at Orange Park Medical Center.

A former Florida state senator, representative and lobbyist, Slade is perhaps best known as Chair of the Republican Party of Florida for three consecutive terms from 1993-1999.  He most recently serves as CEO of Tidewater Consulting.

In a statement, Slade’s family asks for thoughts and prayers at this time.
