State Rep. Gayle Harrell, running unopposed this year, has filed paperwork necessary to seek another term in House District 83 for 2016, according to the Florida Division of Elections. The Stuart Republican this week joined 23 other candidates who have taken the initial steps toward running for House seats in two years.

Harrell served in the House from 2000 to 2008, returning in 2010; she represents the district including parts of Martin and St. Lucie counties.

Coral Gables Republican John Couriel is also filing paperwork for a 2016 run for what will be an open House District 114 seat. Republican state Rep. Erik Fresen is currently running for re-election this year in the district covering Miami-Dade County but will be term-limited as of 2016.
