The Republican governor on Monday reappointed Dr. Akshay Desai, a St. Petersburg physician, to the board that oversees public schools as well as state and community colleges, reports the Associated Press.
Crist was a Republican when he appointed Dasai four years ago but became an independent shortly before leaving office last year.
Desai, who also is president of Universal Healthcare, replaced Phil Handy, who had been appointed by Crist’s predecessor, Jeb Bush.
Desai will serve another four years if confirmed by the Florida Senate. That likely won’t happen until next year as the Legislature is set to adjourn on Friday. He can continue serving on the board in the meantime.
