Gov. Rick Scott will take center stage at one of the biggest political galas in Tampa Bay, as keynote speaker of the Hillsborough County Republican Party’s 2014 Lincoln Day Dinner.

Taking a cue from Scott’s re-election campaign message, the theme of the flagship GOP event is “It’s Working in Hillsborough County.”

HCRP Chair Sen. Tom Lee and Vice-Chair Debbie Cox-Roush announced the details of the annual celebration, which is set for Friday, May 9 at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay.

The festivities start at 6:30 p.m. with the Chairman’s VIP Reception; Dinner will begin at 7:30 p.m.

“We’re very excited about this year’s Lincoln Day Dinner and even more thrilled to have Governor Scott as our Keynote Speaker,” said Lee. “Our local Republican Party is strong and our conservative message resonates with voters. While Republicans have accomplished a great deal over the past few years, there is still a lot of work left to do.”

Lincoln Day is and annual GOP celebration held nationwide by various Republican Party organizations. After the death of Ronald Reagan, Lincoln Day evolved into a celebration of the former president’s life and achievements, as well as an opportunity to honor the party’s conservative successes over the past year. The HCRP is the largest GOP association in Florida, with 12 chapters throughout the county.

“The 2014 elections will be pivotal for Hillsborough County and for Florida,” said Cox-Roush. “There’s no denying, ‘It’s Working in Hillsborough County’ and people all over Florida are getting back to work, thanks to Governor Rick Scott’s leadership. As a local party, it is our job to share this message with every Hillsborough County voter.”

Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay is at 2900 Bayport Road in Tampa.
