Florida’s long statewide nightmare of – somehow, inexplicably – marching forward without a Lieutenant Governor in place will end on Tuesday.
Gov. Rick Scott will name Miami-Dade Property Appraiser Carlos Lopez Cantera, a former state lawmaker, his new LG.
Scott posted a message on his Facebook page saying he will make a “major announcement” regarding the vacant position on Tuesday, notes Gary Fineout of the Associated Press.
That announcement was a fait accompli by Monday morning as the Miami Herald‘s Marc Caputo broke the news that Cantera was at the top of a very short shortlist. (Of course, I am going to toot SaintPetersBlog’s horn for first touting CLC as a possible LG contender in September.)
Certainly, Lopez-Cantera fits the bill for Scott. A telegenic Hispanic with a South Florida political base puts a checkmark in a lot of boxes for Scott.
