Gov. Scott makes flurry of appointments to judicial nominating commissions throughout the state

Just in time for the new year, Governor Scott is giving some Floridians a head start on a successful 2013 with an appointment to a judicial nominating commission.  Here are the appointments Gov. Scott made today:

Fifth Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission: James “Ted” Schatt, of Ocala, is the managing partner of Schatt & Hesser, P.A. Previously, he was the sole member of The Schatt Law Firm, PLLC from 2009 to 2011, and the managing partner of Mateer & Harbert, P.A. in Ocala from 2003 to 2009.  He succeeds Julia R. Law and is appointed from the list of nominees submitted by the Florida Bar for a term beginning December 28, 2012, and ending July 1, 2016.

Sixth Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission: Kevin D. Brennan, of St. Petersburg, has been a partner with Meros, Smith, Lazzara & Olney, P.A. since 2011.  Previously, he was an associate with the firm from 2007 to 2011 and a law clerk from 2006 to 2007. He succeeds Joseph M. Triolo and is appointed for a term beginning December 28, 2012, and ending July 1, 2016.

Todd A. Jennings, of Belleair, practices with Galloway, Johnson, Tompkins, Burr & Smith, PLC.  He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee and his law degree from the University of Florida.  Jennings succeeds Peter N. Meros and is appointed for a term beginning December 28, 2012, and ending July 1, 2016.

Fourteenth Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission: William A. Lewis, of Panama City, has been the Deputy Sheriff and General Counsel for the Bay County Sheriff’s Office since 2009.  Previously, he was the Chief Assistant State Attorney for the Fourteenth Judicial Circuit from 2005 to 2009 and served as an Assistant State Attorney from 1990 to 2008.  Lewis succeeds Kathi Lee Kilpatrick and is appointed from the list of nominees submitted by the Florida Bar for a term beginning December 28, 2012, and ending July 1, 2016.

Seventeenth Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission: Belinda M. Keiser, of Parkland, has been the Vice Chancellor for Community Relations and Student Advancement at Keiser University for over twenty years.  Keiser is reappointed for a term beginning December 28, 2012, and ending July 1, 2016.

Terrence P. O’Connor, of Lighthouse Point, has been a partner with Morgan, Carratt & O’Connor, P.A. since 1983.
