Gov. Rick Scott on Tuesday signed legislation (HB 629) that expands public record exemptions for information about certain public employees to include their date of birth, and information about their spouses and children, reports the News Service of Florida. It also expands the law to make information about former justices and judges and their spouses and children exempt from public records requirements. The measure also further defines “telephone numbers,” which are exempt from public disclosure for certain agency personnel and their families. The bill says that includes cell phone numbers. The bill, which becomes effective Oct. , passed both chambers easily this past session.
