Gov. Rick Scott is appointing his campaign manager to be his new chief of staff.

Scott announced on Monday that Melissa Sellers will take over the position that has been held by Adam Hollingsworth since 2012.

Sellers was communications director for Scott before she stepped down to run Scott’s re-election campaign. Scott, a Republican, defeated Republican-turned-Democrat Charlie Crist by a roughly 1 percent margin.

Sellers had previously worked as communications director for Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal.

The chief of staff position is one of the most powerful in the governor’s office.

Sellers hiring marks the beginning of Scott’s transition to a second term in office. The incumbent governor, however, is not planning on putting together a transition team or doing a comprehensive evaluation of his administration.
