Gov. Scott will not appeal prison privatization ruling

Gov. Rick Scott’s administration will not appeal a circuit judge’s ruling that blocked a plan to privatize prisons across South Florida, reports the News Service of Florida. The state faced a Monday deadline for going to the 1st District Court of Appeal, but Scott spokeswoman Jackie Schutz said in an e-mail that it will not appeal. The decision is a victory for the Florida Police Benevolent Association, which challenged the constitutionality of the Legislature approving the privatization plan in the fine print of the budget — as opposed to approving it in a stand-alone bill.
