Gretna to appeal ruling on barrel racing license

The parent company of Gretna Racing will appeal a ruling Monday by Administrative Law Judge John Van Laningham that found the pari-mutuel facility’s horse barrel-racing license shouldn’t have been approved. Gretna intends to make the requisite modification to the racing to comply with the judge’s order while they “appeal its arbitrariness.”

Van Laningham ruled that the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering, violated state law when approving the license for Gretna Racing to run its horse racing contests.
