U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis has endorsed Republican first-time candidate Bill Young for Florida House District 68.
Young is the son of U.S. Rep. C.W. Bill Young, who represented Pinellas County for four decades until his passing last October. Bilirakis, a Republican, is the four-term Congressman from Florida’s 12th Congressional District. He serves on the Energy and Commerce Committee, and is vice chair of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee.
Bilirakis also served alongside Young’s father from 2007 through 2013.
“He will continue his family’s stellar legacy of service to our Veterans and the citizens of Pinellas County,” Bilirakis said in a statement.
“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of Congressman Bilirakis,” Young responded. “He has been at the very forefront of making certain our veterans get the services they need and deserve, an issue near and dear to my heart.”
Young faces incumbent Democratic Rep. Dwight Dudley in HD 68, which covers eastern Pinellas County and parts of Pinellas Park and Saint Petersburg.
