U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis announced on Monday his endorsement of GOP hopeful Chris Latvala.
Latvala, son of longtime Republican state Sen. Jack Latvala, is running for House District 67, currently represented by term-limited state Rep. Ed Hooper. Bilirakis is the Republican from Florida’s 12th Congressional District, which includes much of Pasco County and parts of north Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties.
“Chris Latvala will work hard to represent his constituents and do what is best for Pinellas County,” Bilirakis said in a statement on Monday. “He possesses the principled leadership and values that are necessary to make an effective Representative. I am honored to endorse him and I look forward to working with him for the betterment of Pinellas County.”
Latvala is a member of the 2014 class of Leadership Pinellas, a board member of the PACE Center for Girls, and a member of the Citizen Advisory Committee of the Pinellas MPO, the Government Advocacy Committee for Ruth Eckerd Hall, and the Community Relations Committee for New Life Solutions.
“Pinellas County is lucky to have Congressman Gus Bilirakis fighting for our issues in Washington D.C. He is a great leader and Representative I am honored to have earned his endorsement,” Latvala responded.
He will now face Democratic candidate Steve Sarnoff in November for the northeast Pinellas County district including most of Clearwater and Largo.
