From Abel Harding: With BP delivering millions to Florida – $58 million to be exact – and political leaders asking for more, one current office holder has stepped up efforts to make the process of how the money is spent more transparent.
After BP made the first pledge of $25 million last month, state Senate President Jeff Atwater, who is running for CFO, wrote to Gov. Charlie Crist, asking for details on how the money would be spent.
“We should be able to track these funds and identify the accountable parties, as well as determine what, if any, responsibilities various parties throughout the state may be asked to assume.”
It looks as if Atwater may have gotten his wish, courtesy of the state’s existing CFO, Alex Sink. Sink, who is running for governor, set up a website late last week that tracks grant dollars received, dollars disbursed and state operation expenditures. Continue reading here.
