Senate President Mike Haridopolos said Wednesday he expects budget allocations to be distributed next week. And he warned that failure to seek savings through prison privatization could force cuts in other areas of the budget, reports Bruce Ritchie.
The House Appropriations Committee on Wednesday approved a $69.2-billion budget bill (APC1) that was filed on Friday. The budget provides money for schools and avoids the deep cuts to hospitals as proposed by Gov. Rick Scott.
Haridopolos, R-Merritt Island, said Wednesday the Senate is getting close on its allocations.
“My goal is to hopefully start those allocations next week,” he said. “I wanted to go over some of those final numbers and make sure people have confidence as to where they can get to.”
