Republican Bill Gunter received the endorsement of another high-profile law enforcement officer on Monday. Pasco/Pinellas State Attorney Bernie McCabe announced his support of Gunter in his run for House District 36.

Gunter, a minister in the Redeemer Community Church in New Port Richey, is one of three GOP candidates looking to fill Mike Fasano’s vacant House seat. Fasano stepped down to become Pasco Tax Collector Aug. 7.

The other Republicans in the race are chairman of the Pasco County GOP Jim Mathieu and first-time candidate Jeromy Harding. Richard Sikes, with no party affiliation, is also running for the District 36 seat.

“Bill Gunter is what Pasco County needs”, said McCabe, State Attorney for the Sixth Judicial Circuit in a statement.  “His strong no-nonsense approach to governing will ensure that law enforcement officers and prosecutors have the tools they need to get the job done right.”

McCabe becomes one of many in a growing number of Gunter GOP endorsements, which include House Speaker Will Weatherford and Pasco Commissioner Kathryn Starkey.

“The support from State Attorney McCabe and the entire law enforcement community has been tremendous,” Gunter said of the new supporters. “It is both humbling and encouraging to have the backing of such fine public servants.”
