Hillary Clinton increases lead nationally in new CNN Democratic poll

Has Hillary Clinton stemmed any erosion of support for her due to the ongoing saga regarding her emails?

Though she trails Vermont independent U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders in state polls in Iowa and New Hampshire, she has never trailed in a national poll of Democratic presidential candidates this year, and a new CNN/ORC poll released Monday shows her gaining on Sanders.

Clinton is at 42 percent support, compared to 24 percent for Sanders. Vice President Joe Biden is a close third at 22 percent, though he is not an official candidate in the race. Former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley comes in with 1 percent support.

This is a marked improvement for the former secretary of state, who in a CNN/ORC poll taken three weeks ago had Clinton over Sanders by only 10 percentage points, 37-27 percent.

If Biden was removed from the poll, Clinton’s lead over Sanders would rise higher. A straight one-on-one match up shows Clinton at 57 percent, and Sanders at 28 percent.

The poll surveyed 392 Democrats and independents who lean toward the Democratic Party from September 17-19 and has a margin of error of plus or minus five points.
