Attention Uber fans and critics: There’s no need for you to travel to Brandon on Friday to listen to cheer (or protest) a series of local legislative bills on regulating ridesharing companies in Florida.
That’s because the Hillsborough County Legislative Delegation meeting that was slated to be held at the Brandon campus of Hillsborough Community College has been postponed until December 8.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, we will not have a quorum at our Hillsborough County Legislative Delegation (HCLD) Meeting Friday, September 25th” is the sparse message posted on the Hillsborough County government’s website.
Instead, the meeting will now take place at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 8, at the Amalie Arena in Tampa.
Among the bills that lawmakers were poised to discuss included the recently created bill developed by the Hillsborough County Public Transportation Commission that would attempt to regulate Transportation Network Companies (TNC) like Uber and Lyft on issues like insurance and background checks.
Transportation Chairman Jeff Brandes was also prepared to discuss his legislation that would kill the Public Transportation Commission, a proposal that he and state Rep. Jamie Grant were unsuccessful in getting their colleagues with the Hillsborough delegation to agree on back in 2013.
All that has been delayed until December, however.
