Florida House Majority Whip Dana Young announced today her endorsement of “friend and former colleague” Shawn Harrison in his quest to reclaim State House District 63.
The Tampa Republican faces incumbent Democrat Rep. Mark Danish in the district representing parts of north Hillsborough County. Harrison lost to Danish in 2012 after serving a single term in the House.
Young is the two-term Republican from Tampa who represents much of coastal Hillsborough County, including south Tampa and Davis Island.
“I had the pleasure of serving with Shawn for two years in the State House,” Young said in a statement, adding he is “a skilled public servant.”
“Shawn enjoyed broad bipartisan support for his work in Tallahassee,” she added, “and his experience and knowledge will serve the residents of Northern Hillsborough well.”
Harrison responded by calling Young a “rising star in Tallahassee and a great spokesperson for Tampa.”
He also thanked supporters for a great fundraising month, where he raised $10,000 in April and are “well on our way to eclipsing that benchmark” in May.
Harrison announced he would be holding a fundraiser on May 29 at the Fly restaurant rooftop in downtown Tampa.
Young joins growing list of Harrison’s GOP supporters, which include Hillsborough County Commissioners Victor Crist, Sandy Murman, and Mark Sharpe, Hillsborough State Attorney Mark Ober, former Councilwoman Mary Alvarez and past Tampa Mayor Dick Greco, as well as State Sens. Bill Galvano and John Legg.
