Is Jack Latvala a ‘better’ conservative than John Thrasher?

Really looking forward to this morning’s political talk shows.  Friend-of-the-blog Jen Lux is on Florida This Week, while Senator Jack Latvala sits down with Al Reuchel and Adam Smith.

Check out this nugget from Latvala, who is talking about the notion that moderation is dead in the Florida Legislature.

“I think it’s quite alive, whether we talk about being a moderate or we talk about a different definition of being conservative,” Latvala says in a Political Connections interview airing today on Bay News 9 at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. “I got a 100 percent rating for my voting record last year from the American Conservative Union, so I think that makes me a conservative. I got a better rating than some of my colleagues, for instance John Thrasher, who has been a party chairman and most people think is a staunch conservative.”

Said Latvala: “It’s not so much conservative versus liberal that defines the bay area and people like Mike Fasano as people who are concerned about consumers, who think that there’s not much difference between paying a tax and paying a utility rate that’s higher or paying an insurance premium that’s higher. It still comes out of people’s pockets.”
