On Monday, Representative Janet Adkins was appointed by Speaker Will Weatherford as Chairman of the House K-12 Education Committee.

Rep. Adkins was named Chair of the House K-12 Education Committee and a member of the Education Appropriations Committee, Full General Education Committee, Finance and Tax Committee and Rules and Calendar Committee.

“It is a huge honor to have a chance to serve in a leadership position as Chairman of the House Policy Committee on K-12 Education,” said Adkins. “I am grateful to have an opportunity to help move education reform in the right direction in our public schools.”

“In order to move our economy in the right direction, it is critical we create a policy framework that will connect the skills of students to the needs of employers. This past year, I have hosted four Education Solutions Summits, and I will be working to take the best ideas and put them into action through this new role,” said Adkins.

“Education is the one gift we can give our children that no one can ever take away. As a parent of two public school children, I am committed to ensuring we have a sense of urgency and greater accountability for the education of our children. It is critical our children learn the necessary skills in their K-12 education to compete in a global economy,” said Adkins.
