Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater drew a Democratic challenge from Deerfield Beach Democrat William “Will” Rankin, who qualified Wednesday in the fall election.

Rankin is the first Democratic candidate to qualify officially for a Cabinet position, held by Atwater, Attorney General Pam Bondi and Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam.

The three Republican incumbents qualified on Monday.

Libertarian Bill Wohlsifer also qualified Tuesday in the AG race against Bondi.

As of May 31, Rankin only $13,055 in the chief financial officer’s race, compared to Jeff Atwater, who had raised $1.9 million. Qualifying ends at noon Friday.
