Jim DeMint in Tampa on Aug. 21, as part of “growing chorus of conservatives”

Tampa conservatives hoping to “make a difference” will have a chance to meet former U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint a town-hall-style meeting Wednesday, Aug. 21.

The free event, sponsored by the Heritage Action for America, will be at the Crowne Plaza Tampa Westshore on West Kennedy Boulevard.

The Tea Party firebrand passes through Tampa as part of a tour to spread the word about the “growing chorus of conservatives” across the country. DeMint was one of the first leaders of the Tea Party movement in 2010.

DeMint represented South Carolina in the Senate from 2005 to 2013, and abruptly left Congress to be Heritage’s leader in January. His new job is much the same as his old one in the Senate — holding the conservative movement accountable.

According to the group’s website, “Unless we conservatives stand up for what we believe, liberals will continue to get their way.”

Participants are invited to exchange ideas with others “willing to make a stand” for traditional principles. They will also have a chance to meet Heritage’s Regional Coordinator, as well as network with other like-minded Tampa-area activists. Part of the program will also be a debate on some of the most serious ideological battles currently taking place in Washington.

Registration for the event begins at 6 p.m., the town hall starts at 7 p.m. The Crown Plaza Tampa Westshore is at 5303 West Kennedy Boulevard.

Organizers request participants reserve a spot for the event with an RSVP at HeratigeAction.com
