Today, former Attorney General Jim Smith announced his endorsement of Pam Bondi for Attorney General, citing her experience as a key reason for his support. Smith is largely recognized as one of the most competent Attorney Generals in Florida’s history and has bipartisan respect statewide. He will join former Governor Bob Martinez, former First Lady Mary Jane Martinez, and former Ambassador to the Bahamas Ned Siegel as honorary statewide co-chairs of the Bondi Campaign.
“Pam is conservative and without a doubt the most experienced person seeking to serve as Attorney General,” said Smith. “She will be able to lead the office from day one and will be the most prepared to continue McCollum’s challenge to the constitutionality of the federal health care legislation.”
Smith is the first former Attorney General to openly endorse one of the Republican candidates, and his endorsement is yet another organizational victory for the Bondi campaign which has won the most straw polls across the state and has posted a fundraising lead over the last 4 months.
“This endorsement is an honor,” said candidate Pam Bondi. “Jim Smith is one of the most respected figures in the state, and I will seek his counsel as I continue on this campaign.”
Bondi recently resigned as an Assistant State Attorney and prosecutor in Tampa Bay. She lives in Tampa and has been campaigning full time since December of last year.
