If you want to feel afraid about terrorism in the world, spend a few minutes with John Bolton, former ambassador to the United Nations under George W. Bush.
Bolton is hardcore, as anyone who has ever watched him on Fox News or any other media outlet will understand. He said that while Barack Obama‘s foreign policy has been a disaster, it wasn’t just the president’s philosophy or background that was the problem: It was the Democratic Party’s.
“There is no Scoop Jackson wing of the Democratic Party. There’s not even a Joe Lieberman wing,” he said with disdain. However, he didn’t stop there, saying there are some in his own Republican Party whose stances he disagrees with.
“I think the isolationists are isolated,” he said, undoubtedly referring to Rand Paul’s views.
Count Bolton as someone who doesn’t care whether President Obama finalizes an agreement with Iran over their nuclear program. “They’re not going to abide by it,” he sneered. “They’ve never abided by any nuclear deal. They’re not going to give up a 30-year search for nuclear weapons.”
He hedged on whether he has any thoughts of running for office himself. Instead he told New Hampshire residents it’s their job the next year to vet the candidates who will be invading their cities and to make foreign policy the most important issue in the election.
“It’s not whether the candidates can read a well crafted speech … you need someone who understands in his or her gut, that the most important thing they do, is protect the country … Do they feel it in their gut? Do they understand it? And do they mean it?”
Bolton was a contemporary of Bill and Hillary Clinton at Yale Law school. He says she was a radical and “She’s a radical today,” adding that she’ll be Obama’s third term on both domestic and foreign policy issues.
“She doesn’t have to work in her campaign to get to the left of Elizabeth Warren. She’s already there,” he said, though most progressives would beg to differ.
