John Shannon adds $5,625 in two weeks for HD 40 race

 John Shannon added $5,625 from June 21 to July 4 in his race for House District 40.

The Lakeland attorney and Marine Corps veteran now has a total of $92,910 After spending $36,794 to date, Shannon has more than $56,100 cash on hand.

Shannon’s GOP primary opponent, Colleen Burton, a former executive director for Polk Vision, raised $6,425 in the same two-week reporting period — for a total of $124,125. Taking in account a total of $39,060 spent to date, Burton is left with $85,065 on hand.

Shannon and Burton are looking to replace term-limited Rep. Seth McKeel for the Republican-leaning seat covering metropolitan Lakeland and much of Polk County. The winner of the August 26 GOP primary faces Democrat Ricky Shirah and American Independent Party candidate Franklin Shoemaker. Neither candidate reported any donations during the two week period.
