John Morroni is endorsing businessman Justin Bean in the St. Petersburg District City Council race.
“Justin Bean is absolutely the right person to represent the residents of District 6,” Morroni, a longtime Pinellas County GOP commissioner, said in a statement Tuesday from the Bean campaign. “He is open, fair-minded and focused on making sure everyone benefits when St. Petersburg succeeds. I am excited to endorse his candidacy.”
“John Morroni is as Pinellas County as it gets. He is a legend and is universally respected by his constituents and his peers,” Bean said.”I am extraordinarily humbled to have received his endorsement and look forward to carrying on his legacy of good governance.”
Serving in public office for nearly 25 years, Morroni’s political career began in 1992 when he was elected to represent northern Pinellas County in the Florida Legislature.
In 2000, Morroni ran and won his first race for Pinellas Commission, subsequently re-elected four more times. He declined to run for a fifth term, announcing he would step down when his latest four-year term expires in 2018.
Bean has previously been endorsed by the Tampa Bay Times, the Associated Builders and Contractors, and former City Council member Bill Dudley.
