Responding to a trial balloon floated in a column by the Tampa Bay Times‘ Steve Bousquet and Adam Smith about him being the frontrunner to be named Rick Scott’s new Lieutenant Governor, St. Augustine state Senator John Thrasher downplayed the rumor, telling me, “I have not spoken to the governor or any of his staff about any of this, I believe this is just a media rumor.”

In their Sunday column, Bousquet and Smith wrote, If we had to put money on anyone to become Rick Scott’s next lieutenant governor, it would be the conservative state senator, a former House speaker. With Scott’s chief of staff, Adam Hollingsworth, personally handling the selection, a trusted and sharp ally from the Jacksonville area might be just the ticket.”
