National Review is reporting that Jeb Bush met Monday with a group of his former staffers at the J. W. Marriott hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue. Also there was Neil Newhouse, Mitt Romney’s campaign pollster.
No matter how capable or smart he is, Newhouse’s presence begs this question: Why on Earth would Bush meet with the pollster whose internal numbers showed his candidate with a slight edge in Ohio, New Hampshire and Iowa? These were all states Romney lost.
Bush meeting with Newhouse is like a NFL team meeting with Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid.
Update: Republican consultant David Johnson tweeted an answer to my question: “Neil was pollster for JB in 98 and 02, has done much Foundation work in state since, and for RPOF.”
