Republicans state Rep. Kathleen Passidomo of Naples and Dean Asher of Orlando have opened campaign accounts for Senate races in 2016.
Passidomo seeks the Senate District 23 seat in Lee and Collier counties to succeed Sen. Garrett Richter, who will be term-limited as of 2016.
Asher will run for the seat currently held by incoming Senate President Andy Gardiner, the Orlando Republican from Senate District 13 who is also term-limited in 2016. Democrat Rick Roach already filed paperwork to run in the district covering Orange and Brevard Counties.
Last week, Palm Bay Republican Andy Anderson filed to run in House District 53, the Brevard County district open in 2016 by term-limited Melbourne Beach Republican Rep. John Tobia.
Wellington Republican Stuart Mears filed to run in House District 86, the Palm Beach County seat open in two years after Democrat Rep. Mark Pafford of West Palm Beach is term limited out. Wellington Democrat Matt Willhite had also opened an account to run for Paffordโs seat.
Once a candidate files paperwork, they can start raising money for campaigns.
