South Pasadena Republican Rep. Kathleen Peters will hold a fundraiser Aug. 7 for her Pinellas County Commission campaign, and the host committee includes some of the top names in Bay area politics.
Joining the three-term HD 69 representative and former South Pasadena mayor are state Sen. Jack Latvala, his son state Rep. Chris Latvala, Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, Treasure Island Mayor Bob Minning, Redington Beach Mayor Nick Simons and many others.
The fundraiser will be held at Cafe Ponte in Clearwater from 5:30 pm to 7 pm. Those interested in attending can RSVP through an email to [email protected] or by calling (727) 656-3821.
Peters was first elected to the Florida House in 2012 and has another term of eligibility in District 69, but announced in May that she would forego a fourth term to instead seek the District 6 commission seat due to the Legislature’s “all-out assault on local government and home rule” in the 2017 Legislative Session.
When she announced her plans to run for the commission seat, Peters said her priorities would include “strengthening and nourishing” Pinellas County beaches to protect area homes and infrastructure, as well as boosting infrastructure “to ensure the county can withstand any storm mother nature throws at us without doing any further damage to the environment.”
Peters is running to replace Commissioner John Morroni, who announced in March that he would retire after his term expires in 2018.
Also running for the seat are Seminole Republican Rep. Larry Ahern, who is facing term limits in the House, and Republican Barb Haselden, an insurance executive and outspoken opponent of the 2014 Greenlight Pinellas transit tax referendum.
