Kathryn Starkey collects enough petitions to qualify for the ballot

House District 45 candidate Kathryn Starkey announced this week that she has qualified by petition.

“I am so honored to have the support of so many who worked very hard to achieve our goal and to gather enough signatures from the voters of District 45 to qualify without the necessity of paying a costly fee,” Starkey said in a news release. “ I want to express my deepest appreciation and thankfulness to those who walked and worked to gather all these petitions.”

Starkey faces two Republican challengers, Richard Corcoran and Fabian Calvo, for the seat, now held by Dunedin’s Tom Anderson, who must step down due to term limits.

Starkey was elected to the Pasco County School Board in 2004 and re-elected without opposition in 2008.  The Consortium of Florida Education Foundations honored her as a Gold Star Recipient as the School Board Member of the Year for the State of Florida in March of 2009.
