Patrick Manteiga, publisher of La Gaceta, sounds off on the heavy-handedness of the Florida Press Association:
“Be careful of your industry’s association getting into your pocket.
“The Florida Press Association asked the Legislature to pass a law requiring newspapers to post every legal advertisement they publish on the Association’s website. The Association told newspapers and legislators that the service was free and taht this would expose legal advertisements to a larger population. This has been the law for nine months and all of as sudden, the Florida Press Association is going to charge newspapers for each legal ad they are mandated to post.
“With industry associations like that, who needs enemies?”
