Lanny Wiles, the Republican advance man and John McCain campaign veteran, resigned from Jon Huntsman’s presidential campaign team on Friday, he told POLITICO.

Wiles said he was leaving the campaign to return to his ventures in the private sector.

“I sent Governor Huntsman a letter of resignation today informing him I wish to return to my lobbying and government affairs practice in Tallahassee and Washington,” Wiles said. “I wished he and his family the best. I look forward to returning to the real world.”

He added: “I am still an avid supporter of Governor Huntsman.”

Jonathan Martin reported earlier this month that Lanny Wiles had drawn criticism for a string of logistical errors at Huntsman’s campaign kickoff event, including from the candidate’s father, billionaire chemicals manufacturer Jon Huntsman Sr.
