Bob Bauman, the long-standing soccer coach of the Jesuit High Tigers, is giving up one bench for another.

The veteran coach, with nearly 600 victories under his belt, is resigning to run for Hillsborough Circuit Court Judge, Group 34.

Bauman, who by day is an attorney for Tampa’s Morris Law Firm, will face Constance Daniels and Melissa Mary Polo for the Hillsborough Thirteenth Circuit bench in 2014.

As reported by Joey Knight for the Tampa Bay Times Home Team blog, Bauman stepped down Thursday after 26 seasons, leaving with a record of 571-124-69 and 581 overall career wins (including one year at George D. Chamberlain High). His soccer program won 24 district titles, 15 final fours and five state championships. Bauman’s last title team finished 30-2 in 2001, winning a national title.

“It is with mixed emotions that I leave as head coach,” Bauman said in a statement released by the school. “The Jesuit administration, faculty, parents and students have made me feel a part of this community for the past 26 years.”
