Clearwater City Manager Bill Horne will hold a press conference at 10 a.m. to announce who he has appointed as his new police chief.
City leaders are not saying who it will be until after the announcement, but obviously it’s an internal candidate since there has been no outside search commissioned by Horne
According to city insiders, expect Major Daniel Slaughter to get the job. Deputy Chief Sandra Wilson has been passed over, says one source.
Slaughter, 44, has been with the department since 1992, reports Mike Brassfield of the Tampa Bay Times. As head of the patrol division, he oversees 165 officers and about 30 civilians. He also has worked in special operations, internal affairs, homicide, and as a field training officer.
The incoming police chief will replace Anthony Holloway who had been chief for four years but recently accepted the position to be police chief in St. Petersburg.
