Lorraine Margeson raises $725 for City Council District 2 race seat

Lorraine Margeson seems to be getting some bang for the buck when it comes to campaign funding for her St. Petersburg City Council District 2 seat.

According financing reports for the second quarter 2013, Margeson received $725 from only five donors April 29 to June 30. In the most recent StPetePolls survey, she is in a virtual tie against incumbent Jim Kennedy for the November general election.

Of the five people who donated to Margeson’s campaign, the largest was from the candidate herself, with $300. Next was $250 from outside Florida, by Ms. Amy Gulick, a writer and photographer who resides in Washington State.  Three others made the remaining $175.

Whatever the nature of the contributions, Margeson is certainly making the most of them in the polls. In the June 17 survey, Margeson led with 21.9 percent, with Kennedy only a tenth of a point behind at 21.8 percent. The majorities of the voters polled — 56.4 percent — are still undecided.

Margeson is running on a ‘Stop the Lens’ platform; she can certainly thank the increasingly unpopular Pier replacement as the key to her strong performance. In addition to the Lens issue, only 31 percent of St. Petersburg voters approve of the performance of the sitting City Council; 69 percent rank them unfavorably.
