Sen. Maria Sachs will face at least one Republican opponent in her re-election bid for Senate District 34.
Lighthouse Point conservative Karin Hoffman opened a campaign account to run against Sachs in the district covering sections of Broward and Palm Beach counties.
Also considering a run against Maria Sachs is former Sen. Ellyn Bogdanoff, although she told the Miami Herald that she was “still meeting with folks” before making a final decision. Bogdanoff lost to Sachs in 2012, which due to redistricting was the only state Senate incumbent-against-incumbent contest. It resulted in one of the fiercest campaigns of that election cycle.
The official qualifying period for the race is June 16 to June 20.
Fort Lauderdale no-party-affiliation candidate Jonathan Jamal Marc also has filed to run for the seat.
