Days before the June 16 start of the qualifying period, Miami Beach Republican Laura Rivero Levey emerged on Thursday to file a challenge first-term Democratic state Rep. David Richardson in House District 113. Levey is the owner of a public relations firm and mounted an unsuccessful run for the City of Miami Beach mayor in 2011.
Miami Republican Carmen Rosa Sotomayor also opened an account to challenge freshman Democratic Rep. Kionne McGhee in House District 117, according to the Florida Division of Elections.
Qualifying starts Monday for the November elections and continues until Friday, June 20.
As of May, Richardson had raised a total $137,015 loaned $76,365 to his campaign and has more than $164,400 cash on hand.
McGhee had raised $41,995 to date and has just over $29,400 on hand.
