Mike Mikurak sets fundraiser, meet and greet

A fundraiser, the third this month, has been set for Republican Mike Mikurak who’s running for the Pinellas County commission.

The fundraising reception is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Friday at Hops & Props, 335 Second Ave. NE, St. Petersburg. The event is sponsored by the Young Floridians for Opportunity, a conservative political action committee.

On Thursday, the night before the fundraiser, Mikurak has scheduled a “We Like MIKE! (North County)” meet and greet from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Ozona Blue, 125 Orange St., Palm Harbor.

Mikurak is running against Democratic incumbent Charlie Justice for the District 3 at large seat that’s voted on countywide.

Mikurak, a New Jersey native, is a retired businessman who was a founding partner in Accenture, a global professional services company that provides consulting in strategy and other company needs. Mikurak has run his campaign on the concept that a businessman is needed on the county commission. He also says there’s a serious void in leadership on the commission.

Thus far, Mikurak has outstripped Justice in fundraising in part because of the money he’s take out of his own pocket for the campaign.

In the most recent filings with the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections Office, he shows a total amount raised of $130,087 to Justice’s $77,357.

Mikurak reports $7,605 in cash and checks taken in between Sept. 3 and Sept. 16. An additional $3,000 in-kind donation during that same period came from the Pinellas County Republican Party for a TV ad.

Justice reports receiving a total of $6,475 during the same period.

The election is Nov. 8.
